With the holiday season upon us, there’s no better time to support the small and local businesses that help make Seattle the vibrant and inspiring place we love. In this spirit, we asked everyone around the Hansen Belyea studio to share their favorite local places to find gifts for the friends and family on their list this season. From Ballard to Sodo to our Belltown neighborhood, check out our 2016 buy-local holiday gift list.
1. Handmade Arcade @ The Tractor Tavern | Ballard
This one is time-sensitive so we’re putting it first! This coming Sunday (Dec. 18th 10:00am-4:00pm) is the third and final day of the Tractor Tavern’s Handmade Arcade. This local maker’s market features a unique variety of arts, crafts, and design—and live music, of course.
2. Prism | Ballard
Prism brings together an eclectic mix of clothing, accessories, housewares, and other clever curiosities—anyone for an enamel Kingdome pin?! We are big fans of Prism’s distinctive selection of jewelry, as well as their collection of fun, charming, and unexpected gifts.
3. Kavu | Ballard, Downtown
This Seattle-based outdoor outfitter specializes in durable clothes and gear to explore nature in. A great place to find gifts for the men in your life, though there’s plenty of great stuff for the ladies as well.
4. Sun Liquor Distillery & Bottle Shop | Capitol Hill
Local distillers of fine gin, vodka, rum, bitters, and their limited edition Aged Eggnog! Swing by the Sun Liquor Lounge for some tasty craft cocktails and other holiday spirits.
5. Boat Street Kitchen & Bistro | Belltown
If you’ve made it this far through our list, we figure you might need a drink and a good lunch. Just down the hall from our studio, this French-style bistro features a seasonal menu that changes daily—which is great for us since we eat there so often. After your organic, locally sourced meal, feel free to come on down the hall and say hello!
6. SAM Shop | Downtown
Always one of our go-to places for great gifts, the Seattle Art Museum’s SAM Shop features an intriguing array of art, books, toys, jewelry, and contemporary home goods.
7. Esquin Wine & Spirits | Sodo
The Northwest’s oldest wine merchant, Esquin stocks over 5400 wines from around the world. Forget your wine apps, the knowledgeable Esquin staff will help you find wines based on your individual taste preferences. We’ve never had a bad recommendation!
8. re-souL | Ballard
One of the best footwear shops in Seattle, re-souL features an artful selection of shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories—often by local designers. Our design director recommends the sleek and sturdy Bellroy leather wallet—he loves his.
9. Urban Hardwoods | Belltown
Our client, Urban Hardwoods, makes remarkably beautiful furniture from trees salvaged from neighborhoods around the Northwest. If you’re not in the market for a grand, single slab dining table, Urban Hardwoods has plenty of smaller options, such as their stunning Cedar Round coffee tables.
10. Watson Kennedy Fine Living | Pike Place Market & Downtown
From his great blog to his two wonderfully curated shops, we’re forever impressed by the taste of Ted Kennedy Watson. Located in Pike Place Market and on 1st Avenue, the WK Fine Living shop features a wide selection of fine bed, body, and bath products.
